From a young age, I discovered my passion for music, nurtured by a family deeply rooted in the arts.
Inspired by my father, Freddie Notes, and a host of international artists, I took my first steps into the world of performance when I sang in front of my school assembly at just 12 years old. At 14, I found myself in local community halls, seizing every opportunity to grab the microphone and stretch my vocal cords, thus beginning my musical journey.
At 18, I expanded my horizons into the world of modelling, participating in beauty pageants like Miss Jamaica UK, Miss Beautiful Legs, and Miss Caribbean UK, as well as various fashion shows.
This experience not only bolstered my confidence but also showcased another side of my talents.
In 1986, I joined forces with a school friend to form a duet group called VelveTouch. Managed and signed to Hitmaid Records, which was directed by my brother Ian Peters and our family friend Randolph Daniel, we found our niche in the commercial soul genre. Our first performance was at Brockwell Park Festival in 1987, a milestone made even more special with my father hosting the event. This led to subsequent gigs across London’s venues, schools, and colleges. However, in 1992, I decided to part ways with the duet to pursue a solo career, collaborating closely with my brother Ian and musician Mark Kelser from School Road Studios in Acton to create my first soul album.
In 1999, I embarked on a new chapter as a presenter on Galaxy Radio, where I had my own two-hour show for a decade before transitioning to Lovers Rock Radio for another three years. It was during this time that I worked alongside Kyle Robertson, based in Scotland, further advancing my musical career.
The year 2014 marked a significant turning point for me as the local and broader community began to recognize my talent. Within 48 hours of releasing my track “CAN’T GET YOU OFF MY MIND,” written by Ian and musically arranged by Kyle Roberts, I garnered over 400 airplays across social media platforms.
This Lovers Rock track, with its catchy lyrics and my dynamic vocal delivery, resonated deeply with listeners and has continued to gain traction.
My musical journey has been heavily influenced by my father, Freddie Notes, who was part of the band Freddie Notes and the Rudies in the early 70s. Having released an album titled Montego Bay, he remains active in the music scene, and I often join him as a backing vocalist and supporting act on various shows across Europe.
Since those early days, I have ventured into modeling while also engaging in numerous music projects. In March 2016, I launched my first album, THIS IS THE MOMENT, under Fourteen Four Records, which propelled my career to new heights. Shortly thereafter, I joined UK Pressure Records and Soul Power Records as a director, a venture initiated by Kieron Pressure and Mista Stylee, and launched my website, www.deneezpeters.com.
On May 17, 2018, I released my second album, THE NEXT LEVEL, featuring 14 beautiful tracks including “No More War,” “Back in The Day,” and “The Lover In You,” which has accompanying video on YouTube. The album also showcases my sultry RnB ballad “Natural High.” You can find me on all major social media platforms, keeping the connection alive with my fans.
Currently, I am in the studio working on my new album, with one of the tracks, "You’re Number One (in my book)," already released in 2025. This piece serves as a classic rendition of a beloved song by Gladys Knight and the Pips, and I’m excited for the world to hear it.
Through my recent albums, I have been honoured to receive nominations and awards for several tracks. I invite you to watch this space as I continue to evolve as an artist. My journey is far from over, and I look forward to sharing more music with you in the future.
